Nicastro Award
A 12 year-old Gloucester Little Leaguer, JJ Nicastro, died suddenly in the summer of 2007 after a three-week battle with a virus that attacked his heart. On the playing field Nicastro was a natural athlete and is remembered for his caring, sensitive, competitive, and charismatic personality.
Each year, District 15 presents 22 players, one from each league-including the Challenger division, with the JJ Nicastro award. The ideal player should have a positive outlook and demonstrate kindness and a caring attitude toward others. The award can, but does not necessarily have to be given to a member of a league’s Williamsport team-ideally a 12 year-old in the league who has illustrated the qualities Nicastro is remembered for-perhaps a player has raised money for a particular cause, spent time volunteering at a local organization, or exemplified altruism in some other way.
The award will be presented prior to the start of District Finals held sometime in mid-July.
